Fire pits, seat walls and outdoor fireplaces
Round fieldstone fire pits with a bluestone cap, curved seat walls that wrap around them, and outdoor fireplaces with wood boxes built into the stonework.

How we build it
Our fieldstone fire pits are a ring of rounded stone with a bluestone cap, set on a crushed stone base. Some stand on their own pad. Most sit on a patio, with a seat wall curving behind them at bench height, in one tier or two.
Outdoor fireplaces are built in the same fieldstone, with a bluestone hearth and wood boxes on each side, arched or square.
Paver and block fire pits are an option too, on a paver pad or at the edge of a paver patio.

Questions
Can I use a fire pit on Cape Cod?
State rules allow fires for cooking. In Yarmouth and Hyannis the fire departments ask for cooking fires only, under 3 feet across and 25 feet from the house, shed, garage or deck. Rules differ by fire district, so check yours.
